LOCAL ENVIRONMENTALIST APPEALS TO PEOPLE NOT TO INTERFERE WITH NESTING BIRDS

first_imgOne of Donegal’s most famous nesting birds, the Golden Eagle.A leading local environmentalist has appealed to people across Donegal not to interfere with bird’s nests.Chairman of Wild Inishowen, Dermot McLaughlin, said a number of factors have already made this a difficult season for breeding birds. And he appealed to people to consider birds before doing anything that will interfere with their breeding cycles. “As we are all aware the North West has experienced a cold wet spring ,with biting north easterly winds and heavy rainfall, combined with damaging night frosts. This has resulted in delayed growth, a lack of nest cover, and resulting food shortage for many bird species with increased vulnerability to predators.“All birds , their nests and young are protected by the Wild Life Act, and it is an offence to wilfully interfere or disturb their nests. Birds of prey are especially protected and any approach to their nests can only be done by licence from the relevant Department .“We would appeal to all people using the countryside at this very sensitive time of year to respect and protect our wonderful natural heritage by observing all of above.“Remember the country code, respect land owners rights, keep disturbance to minimum, so all can continue to enjoy our beautiful countryside.” LOCAL ENVIRONMENTALIST APPEALS TO PEOPLE NOT TO INTERFERE WITH NESTING BIRDS was last modified: May 15th, 2015 by StephenShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:Dermot McLaughlindonegalnesting birdsWildlife Inishowenlast_img read more
