Girls swimming Wildcats, Lakers open with home wins

first_imgAllison Putnam won twice, going 2:09.40 in the 200 freestyle with Victoria Senus second and then needing 5:56.51 to get a victory in the 500 freestyle, while Burnside won the 100 breaststroke in 1:18.27 and Smith was second in the 200 individual medley in 2:38.92.Hannah Murdock, a close second in the 50 freestyle (26.52 seconds) to Auburn’s Maura Moochler (26.47), would win the 100 freestyle in 59.44 seconds, also pairing with Putnam, McFadden and Anna Ivery to win the 400 freestyle relay in 4:07.35.Amid a 1-2-3 Wildcats sweep in diving, Kelsie Bottari finished first, earning 181.65 points. Julia Turton was close behind, earning second place with 171.00 points as Morgan Bush was third. Each of the girls swim teams from West Genesee and Skaneateles would emerge from Thursday night’s season-opening meets with impressive victories.At home, the Wildcats pulled away from Auburn and prevailed 106-76, while the Lakers handled the Oswego Buccaneers in a 99-83 decision.To get itself going, West Genesee had Maggie Smith, Devon Burnside, Taylor McFadden and Adriana Gill roar to first place in the 200 medley relay in two minutes, 4.40 seconds. Skaneateles was also at home for its first meet of the season, and in the 200 medley relay grabbed the title as Lily Buchholz, Grace King, Lili Winkelman and Lilly Marquardt got a time of 2:00.67.Later in the meet, King went 5:52.46 to prevail in the 500 freestyle, with Buchholz winning the 100 backstroke in 1:06.75 and Winkelman taking the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.31.Here, like with WG’s meet against Auburn, the Lakers swept the diving honors, Carlee Pitman getting 157.20 points to hold off Lexi Cottrill (152.05) and Claire Neumann (137.20) for the individual victory.Elizabeth Springer was victorious in the 50 freestyle in 26.53 seconds, also finishing second in the 100 butterfly as Buchholz was second in the 100 freestyle, King second in the 200 IM and Caitlin Comer second in the 200 freestyle.But another relay title was gained by the Lakers when Comer, paired with Springer, Cottrill and Amelia Musso, swam the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:53.76.Skaneateles goes for two in a row at New Hartford Tuesday, two nights before WG had its own road trip to face the Spartans as the Lakers host Cicero-North Syracuse that same Thursday.Share this:FacebookTwitterLinkedInRedditComment on this Story center_img Tags: skaneatelesswimmingWest Geneseelast_img
