25th Annual Model Makers Showcase

first_imgVisitors to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic this weekend will have the opportunity to view model ships of all shapes and sizes. Hosted by the Maritime Ship Modeler’s Guild and featuring model makers from across Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, the weekend showcase will boast ship models as well as free model building activities for children. The showcase will also celebrate the guild’s dedication to volunteering. Since 2003, a group of modelers have donated nearly 13,000 hours worth of work to the museum, using their expertise and love of model making to conserve, treat and preserve almost all of the models in the museum’s extensive collection. From cleaning simple, wooden, recognition models, to completely restoring all 13-feet of the damaged RMS Franconia model, these volunteers have ensured that hundreds of historically important models will be exhibit ready for years to come. The showcase will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22. Admission will be charged. The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is located at 1675 Lower Water St. in Halifax.last_img read more
